The Soul Trembles at the Museum of Oriental Art, Turin, Italy open until 28.06.2026

Following its renowned tour across the Asia-Pacific region and its grand European debut at the Grand Palais in Paris last year, the major exhibition The Soul Trembles continues its European journey with a presentation at the Museum of Oriental Art in Turin.

This immersive exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience the most extensive showcase of Chiharu Shiota’s work to date. Spanning over 25 years of artistic practice, the exhibition features several of her iconic large-scale installations, along with sculptures, performance videos, photographs, drawings, and documentation of her stage designs for dance and opera. In addition, the Turin presentation will also include newly created works, including never-before-seen drawings.

New Solo Exhibition Catalogue: Chiharu Shiota The Soul Trembles

The new solo catalogue has been published to accompany the comprehensive exhibition The Soul Trembles at the Museum of Oriental Art (MAO) in Turin, Italy. The publication is a reprint of the original 2019 catalogue produced for the exhibition’s debut at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, now enriched with new material specific to the MAO presentation.
The catalogue features extensive images from the Turin installation, along with archival material presented at the exhibition. In addition to the reprinted texts by Mami Kataoka and the interview with Andrea Jahn, this edition includes a new interview with Davide Quadrio and Anna Musini in conversation with Shiota and Kataoka, as well as a newly commissioned text by Beatrice Merz.
The beautiful illustrated bilingual catalogue, published in Italian and English by Silvana Editoriale is available at the museum shop.
