The Soul Trembles at the Museum of Oriental Art, Turin, Italy
opening October 2025

Following its renowned tour across the Asia-Pacific region and its grand European debut at the Grand Palais in Paris last year, the major exhibition The Soul Trembles continues its European journey with a presentation at the Museum of Oriental Art in Turin, opening in October 2025.

This immersive exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience the most extensive showcase of Chiharu Shiota’s work to date. Spanning over 25 years of artistic practice, the exhibition features several of her iconic large-scale installations, along with sculptures, performance videos, photographs, drawings, and documentation of her stage designs for dance and opera. In addition, the Turin presentation will also include newly created works, including never-before-seen drawings.

Kunsthalle Praha has released The Unsettled Soul, the official catalogue accompanying the solo exhibition of the same name. This publication offers a deep dive into Chiharu Shiota’s evocative installations, where intricate threads and everyday objects intertwine to evoke themes of memory, connection, and a shared journey.
The catalogue features extensive photographic documentation of the exhibition, capturing both the scale and emotional resonance of the work. It also includes a thoughtful essay by Jason Waite, which explores the artist’s early career, as well as an exclusive interview with Shiota, conducted by curator Christelle Havranek. The interview offers insight into the creation of the Prague exhibition and the key themes that shape Shiota's artistic practice.

Chiharu Shiota - I to Eye

The Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka, have published the exhibition catalogue I to Eye, in conjunction with the extensive new exhibition of the same name. This catalogue documents the creative journey and the memories of connection, from Shiota's past works to the pieces featured in the current exhibition. It includes reflections on the emotional and sensory experiences of facing oneself during formative times.

With the new exhibition catalogue, Shiota invites viewers into a world of interconnectedness, perception, and the profound bonds that shape human experience. The catalogue features stunning photographs of the works displayed in the exhibition, alongside insightful essays and interviews that reflect on the themes of memory, and the intersections of self and others that are central to Shiota’s practice.

With detailed images of her installations, sculptures, and drawings, I to Eye provides a deeper understanding of Shiota’s creative process and the emotional resonance of her art.
